Shires member, Simon, wins the prize for the longest distance travelled to a race after taking part in the Bay to Bay swim in Wanaka, during his recent travels in New Zealand.
The event is billed as a 1.75km straight line swim in the in beautiful Glendhu Bay.After a 6.30 am registration Simon donned his timing chip and walked in the water where the friendly marshalls set the 36 swimmers off in a mass start.
Comments Simon, “The water temperature was lovely so I was glad I was in my Swimrun suit. There was no wind and so the water was calm. The main challenge was sighting as there was only 1 marker buoy near the end. Perhaps that’s why I swam 1.92km!”Simon paced himself well and with relatively few swimmers there was little bumping in to each other.
Finishing in a time of 36.33 Simon came in 22nd place.
