Flanked by the mountains and sea, Richard Ruffell chose the beautiful location of Marbella for his first 70.3 of the season.

Richard regained his composure in transition before tackling the hilly bike course.  With 1500m of climbing and the same amount of descent, it was a challenging cycle.

It was a washing machine swim for Richard.  After bashing through the breakers, he found himself stuck in a group of slower swimmers so struggled to get into his usual swimming rhythm. After a little rough and tumble, however, he broke free to successfully complete the swim leg.

“A long way from my quickest 70.3, but this is a tough course "

Coming out of T2 the cloud cover receded, so he completed the two lap sand-packed, yet thankfully flat run and finished the 70.3 in a time of 6hrs 10 mins.

“A long way from my quickest 70.3, but this is a tough course and I came 8th out of 26th in my age group, so am happy with that for an early season race,” said Richard.
