Last month, Fiona participated in a 70.3 warm-up event in Cirencester, finishing in 5:55. It was a solid day out, but now this was the big one: the Copenhagen full-distance triathlon.
Accompanied by my husband Ben and son Josh, we decided to take a fun and hassle-free approach to the swim start by riding lime bikes (similar to Boris bikes). The morning was beautiful, with calm waters and a pleasant 19-degree temperature at the lagoon inlet.
The rolling start was a bit hectic, with swimmers everywhere, but I managed to get through the swim in 1:20. After that, it was time to hit the bike. The route was slow and steady as we rolled out of town, featuring some technical sections and two undulating loops before making our way back to T2. I completed the bike leg in 6:04:13.
Then came the long run. The first half felt great, and I was plodding along happily, buoyed by the fantastic support throughout the city. However, the last 10k was a real mental challenge, but I pushed through and finished strong with a run time of 4:43:50.
Overall, my finish time was 12:22:33, which earned me a podium place—3rd out of 11 in my category! I’ll definitely take that as a rewarding outcome for all the hard work.
